Varroa Response Update

The current infected premises are sitting at 202.

An infected premise has been identified through self-reported alcohol wash by a beekeeper in the BLUE zone in the Kempsey area.  DPI have begun setting up staging from Kempsey with surveillance teams being deployed and tracing also commenced in order to provide further information to the CCEPP when available.

The DPI have put an immediate ban on all hive movements within 25km of the new Kempsey RED and PURPLE zones. Police patrols are in place to assist with any non-compliant activities.

There are also 2 new IP’s in the RED zone in Cooranbong detected as a result of ongoing surveillance in the area. There are slight extensions to the west in the RED zone associated with these IP.

Beekeepers in the new Kempsey RED and PURPLE zones are urged to contact the DPI to report the location of your hives and apiaries. Hive locations and alcohol wash results can be reported to NSW DPI by filling out the online forms at www.dpi.nsw.gov.au or by calling the Varroa Emergency Response Hotline on 1800 084 881.
