Permits

Permits are not the same as the movement declarations.

PURPLE zone hive movements must only occur after you receive an approved DPI permit.

A PERMIT is required for any activity you want to perform to your bees that is not listed in the Emergency Order. For example beekeepers must apply for a permit and receive written approval  to:

  • move bees or hives within the PURPLE zone
  • remove supers if their facility and apiary are in different zones
  • transport supers for extraction between different zones

Beekeepers must apply for a PERMIT and receive written approval, non-compliant activities may incur heavy penalties, contravening an Emergency Order is a serious offence.

A permit application form can be sought through the DPI website by contacting Brett Kerruish email brett.kerruish@dpi.nsw.gov.au  or call 0427 239 569. DPI will conduct a risk assessment of the proposed movement and provide you with the details of the result which may include strict conditions depending on your request.

Movement Declarations

This only applies to BLUE zone beekeeping movements for operational activities within the BLUE zone.

All movements within the BLUE zone require a movement declaration form to be completed.

The movement declaration form can be found on the DPI website.

Beekeepers must have completed the online Tocal Varroa Training, completed their specified alcohol washing or surveillance requirements and complete their declaration within 72 hours of the movement occurring.

Nana Glen

With the aim of supporting business continuity of stakeholders and industry, NSW DPI have implemented a controlled system to facilitate pollination events within the Nana Glen RED zone. Commercial beekeepers located in the BLUE zone or the Nana Glen PURPLE zone can now apply for new permits to move hives for pollination in the Nana Glen area. Nana Glen details can be viewed on the DPI website.

Strict conditional one way movement permits with hive testing requirements have been approved Nationally through thorough consultation and is underway in the region. Fipronil baiting in the area is continuing till 20 March and afterwards only at feeder stations greater than 2km from farming areas.

State Borders

Movement permits for hives moving out of NSW into QLD and VIC have been temporarily put on hold until tracing is complete.  There is no movement allowed from NSW into South Australia currently.  The temporary hold on issuing permits should be an interim measure.
