May is National Honey Month. Here are some activities taking place during the month of May across the country:


Victoria

The Ballarat Regional Beekeepers are hosting the following events in May for Honey Month:

Rooftop Honey at our May monthly meeting

Thursday May 4 @ 6:30pm – 9:00pm
Cost: Free

6.30pm – 7.00pm Beginners Corner or Ask a Beekeeper
7.00pm – 9.00pm General Meeting – Rooftop Honey

Guest speakers Vanessa and Mat, the creators of Rooftop Honey talk about urban beekeeping and their vision to bring bees back to Melbourne city.  Event details on website – www.rooftophoney.com.au

Honey Tasting and Appreciation Workshop

Saturday May 13 @ 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Cost: Free

Join Amanda, local beekeeper and member of the American Honey Tasting Society and learn about the sensory analysis of honey and how the terroir of a honey influences its character and flavour profile. Taste six different types of honey comparing their colour, aroma, flavour and texture

Bee Friendly Gardens at Bunnings

Sunday May 21 @ 10:00am – 12:00pm
Cost: Free

Join Scott, Gavin and Amanda for a bee friendly garden display at Bunnings Warehouse Ballarat. Ask questions about creating a bee friendly garden using edibles, ornaments and natives. Event details on Ballarat Beekeeping Facebook page

Honey tastings – Mead Making Demonstration & Tasting

Monday May 22 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Cost: $30

A Honey Month activity hosted by Russell Simmons, mead maker from Ballarat Home Brew. Mead making demonstration, tasting and take home notes.
